JD's Parrotlet’s
, Lovebirds & Other Mini Parrots is a small local bird breeder and registered pet and supply business located in the heart of the Willamette Valley in Albany, Oregon. We specialize in handfed/hand raised, Pet Quality Parrotlet’s and Lovebird's and other Rare Mini Parrots  and  Quality Avian products that we believe in. Both all the small parrots we breed make wonderful pets and add joy to any household that wants a loveable pet in a delightful small size with loads of personality. We only breed mini parrots that are perfectly suited for apartment living being some of the quietest parrot species and only taking up a small space. No more huge parrot cages or worrying  about upsetting your neighbors or roommates.

What makes our birds different?
The difference between our handfed birds and others is that we go the extra mile making sure your baby starts it's life off bonded to people. We use our SecludaBrood™ system never allowing our baby birds to open their eyes in the nest box with the parents or even with their siblings taking the babies at 3-5 days after hatch and close leg band them. Most breeders take the chicks at 2-3 weeks after hatch because it is easier and cheaper to raise them from this stage; however, the babies have then bonded with their parents and other nest mates. The babies can of course still bond to people but the bond will be much stronger if a baby is taken before they bond to another bird and think of people as an intricate part of their flock. Always remember that birds have very good memories and are very intelligent and will remember things that we could only dream of remembering and will quickly associate behaviors  that are good and bad to them. In-addition to taking our babies earlier we also separate our babies in the brooder in individual compartments so they cannot bond to other babies in the brooder and we play with them often so they associate people to good things and as important members of their flock. We also feed our handfed chicks the best of the best hand rearing formula and it is not available in stores and is kept frozen to remain at optimum freshness. Our hand feed has no types of sugars, sucrose or dextrose at all as these can encourage yeast (candida) to grow in the crop and possibly kill the developing chick our hand feed closely mimics what they would receive in nature with added vitamins and minerals and the difference is amazing in our chicks.

A question I am often asked
Are all Parakeets Parrots?

Yes!!
all Parakeets as we call them are true parrots (hook-bills). The term Parakeet is used to describe small parrots with long pointed tails. Many of the so called Parakeets are also considered Grasskeets from Australia. These so called Parakeets are fantastic parrots and can be just as good or better pets then the birds we call Parrots and sometimes more loving and less nippy. A properly handfed  and well socialized English Budgie, Lovebird or Lineolated Parakeet or other parakeets are just as sweet (or sweeter in some cases) and smart as any other small Parrot and can speak just as well as any other small parrot.

Here is a quick list of birds we breed: (You can read additional info on many of the species we breed on the traits and care page)Parrotlet's, Lovebirds, Lineolated Parakeets, Cockatiels (White Face, Lutino, Opaline, white face Opaline) Red Opaline Bourke, Normal Bourke, Rainbow Bourke, Black Capped Conure, White Winged Parakeet,  English Budgie, Diamond Doves Bars and stripes mutation and silver cinnamon winged, Pure Stock of European Button Quail Mutations and Red Breasted USA Stock, Finches such as Owl Finch, Parrot Finch Star finch (Red and Orange Face) All the Mini parrots we Breed are under 10 inches and most are 6 inches. We are Working on procuring some quality bloodlines of Scarlet chested parakeets and We are always on the search for rare and better then average pet birds and low maintenance aviary birds.
